Good to know

Questions, answered

Everything people usually ask before their first visit. Still wondering something? Just call or text us.

Does acupuncture hurt?
For most people, no. The needles are hair-fine and inserted gently, especially in the Japanese style we practise. You might feel a tiny tap or a dull warmth, but sharp pain isn't normal. If anything's uncomfortable, tell us and we adjust straight away.
Can I claim on my private health fund?
Yes, we're set up with HICAPS, so if your fund covers acupuncture you can claim your rebate on the spot and only pay the gap. Just bring your health-fund card.
I'm genuinely needle-phobic. Can I still come?
Absolutely, and you wouldn't be our first. Let us know when you book or arrive. We start slow, use very few needles, explain each step, and go at your pace.
How much is it and how long?
First appointment is $170 (90 minutes, including consult). Standard return visits are $120 (60 minutes). An extended return is $170 (90 minutes).
Where are you?
First Floor, 1/17 Griffith Street, Coolangatta, upstairs inside the Maverick Hair & Art space. Open Tuesday to Thursday 9am to 6pm, Friday 9am to 5pm, and Saturday 9am to 1pm, by appointment.
Does acupuncture hurt?
For most people, barely or not at all. Our Japanese-style needles are ultra-fine and shallowly placed. You might feel a tiny tap or faint warmth, sharp pain isn't normal, and we adjust straight away if anything's uncomfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what's going on. Some concerns ease in a visit or two; longer-standing ones settle with a short series. We'll give you an honest sense at your first appointment.
Can I claim on my health fund?
Yes, we have HICAPS on-site, so if your private health fund covers acupuncture you can claim your rebate on the spot and only pay the gap. Bring your fund card.
Do the cupping marks hurt?
The marks themselves don't really hurt, they're tender at most, like after a good massage, and fade within a few days to a week.
What does cupping help with?
Muscle tension and tightness, restricted movement, sluggish circulation, and general stagnation. It pairs beautifully with acupuncture.
How long do the marks last?
Usually a few days up to about a week, depending on how much stagnation was there to begin with.
What is moxa actually made of?
Mugwort (Artemisia), a herb used in Chinese medicine for centuries. We burn it gently near the skin to warm points and channels.
Is moxibustion safe?
Yes, performed by trained practitioners it's very safe. We control the heat carefully and never let it touch the skin uncomfortably.
What's it good for?
It's traditionally used to warm and move Qi, supporting circulation, digestion, and that deep-cold, depleted feeling.
How are the herbs taken?
Depending on the formula, as granules, tablets or raw herbs to prepare. We'll walk you through exactly how and when.
Are Chinese herbs safe with my medications?
Always tell us what you're taking. We prescribe carefully and will flag anything to discuss with your GP.
Do I need herbs as well as acupuncture?
Not necessarily, herbs are one option we may suggest when they'll genuinely help. Acupuncture stands on its own too.
Is Process Work the same as counselling?
It overlaps but has its own approach, it's body-aware and follows your experience in the moment rather than only talking things through.
Do I have to do Process Work to come here?
Not at all. It's one part of what we offer; many clients come purely for acupuncture and natural medicine.
Can it be combined with a treatment?
Yes, the awareness it brings sits naturally alongside the relaxation of an acupuncture session.
